Reporting to – Lead Proposals Engineer

Shift – 40 hours, Monday to Friday (Usual shift 8-5 Mon-Thurs, 8-2:30 Fri, however we can be flexible on the hours)

A Mechanical Estimator in a specialised engineering firm focused primarily in nuclear, oil & gas industries and energy, is responsible for accurately estimating costs related to mechanical systems, equipment, and installations of a wide range of projects within these highly regulated sectors in support of the development of company proposals. This role requires an understanding of mechanical engineering principles, and cost estimation techniques. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and various departments to grasp project requirements and formulate precise estimates.
  • Support all aspects of the tender/bid proposal development. 
  • Examine technical specifications, drawings, and other project documentation to define the project’s scope and assess cost implications. 
  • Create comprehensive cost assessments, encompassing labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses, while ensuring adherence to company standards and industry regulations. 
  • Carry out on-site visits and evaluations to collect data and evaluate project complexities. 
  • Employ relevant software and tools to generate detailed take-offs, bill of quantities, and cost itemizations. 
  • Recognise opportunities for cost reduction, explore value engineering alternatives, and propose alternative solutions to boost project profitability. 
  • Deliver timely and precise estimates to support bid proposals and tender submissions. 
  • Coordinate with procurement teams to secure competitive pricing from suppliers and subcontractors. 
  • Participate in both internal and external meetings to present and justify estimates, offering clarification and recommendations when necessary. 

Desirable Skills & Knowledge 

  • Experience as a Mechanical Estimator in the Nuclear and/or Oil & Gas sectors, with an understanding of industry-specific standards. 
  • Proficiency in all packages of Microsoft Office, primarily Microsoft Excel. 
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills, with a keen attention to Mechanical Scope of Works.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry-specific regulations, codes, and standards. 
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems in Nuclear and Oil & Gas environments. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and under high-pressure circumstances.

Reporting to – Quality Manager

Shift – 40 hours over 4 days. Mon-Thurs, 6am-4:30pm or 7:30am-6pm (to be agreed with Manager ahead of shift). Backshift/Overtime available as required.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Quality Inspector within our heavy metal fabrication environment.

As a Quality Inspector, you will play a vital role in ensuring the high standards of our products by conducting thorough inspections of incoming materials, in-process components, and finished goods. You will be responsible for identifying any deviations from quality standards, making recommendations for improvements, and working closely with the production team to address any issues promptly. Additionally, you will be expected to maintain accurate documentation of all inspections and collaborate with the Quality team to implement effective quality control measures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive inspections of raw materials, components, and finished products using various inspection methods, including CMM and Laser Scanning
  • Identify and document any defects, deviations, or non-conformities in the manufacturing process
  • Collaborate with the production team to address quality issues and implement corrective actions
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all quality inspections and test results
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company quality standards

Desirable Skills & Knowledge

  • NVQ in Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience) is preferred but not mandatory
  • Experience of operating machines including mills and lathes in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Previous experience in quality inspection within a mechanical engineering or heavy metal fabrication environment is preferred, however we will provide training for the right person
  • Excellent attention to detail, ability to identify anomalies, and a natural inclination towards ensuring product quality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey inspection results, collaborate with team members, and interact with client representatives.
  • A proactive and team-oriented approach to problem-solving and decision-making

Reporting to – Managing Director/HSE Manager

Shift – 40 hours, Monday to Friday (Usual shift 8-5 Mon-Thurs, 8-2:30 Fri, however we can be flexible on the hours)

Reporting to the Managing Director and working closely with the Group Safety Function, you will act as the HSE support service across Carr’s Engineering sites. With top line management systems and tools certified to ISO 14001 & 45001, you will ensure these are delivered operationally to drive both engagement and a positive HSE culture across the organisation balancing health and safety priorities and environmental risk.

Main Duties:

  • To deliver risk identification, facilitate risk assessments and control strategies.
  • First line HSE support to operational teams.
  • To facilitate the investigation of incidents and adverse events (Learning Event Process), and to share learnings from incidents across the company.
  • Interpret centralised HSE strategies and translate them locally, ensuring compliance with group standards.
  • Report on health, safety, and environmental performance at Local level and Group Level.
  • Support with internal and external audits relating to safety and environmental standards, ensuring follow up actions are implemented.
  • Support the development of Standard Operating Procedures, One Point Lessons and Safe Systems of Work incorporating safety and environmental requirements.

Key Skills & Knowledge

  • NEBOSH Certificate preferred.
  • Certificate / qualification in environmental management preferred but not essential.
  • Knowledge of HSE issues associated with general Engineering – Fabrication, Precision Machining and Assembly an advantage.
  • Maintains full awareness of all existing applicable legislative and assurance requirements.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills.
