February Half Term week, 20th to 24th February was Dream Placement 2023 week.
Dream Placement is ran by Centre for Leadership Performance and it provides us with a unique opportunity to engage the talent of Cumbria.
Student Harvey from Caldew School in Dalston was offered the placement with us at Bendalls following a selection event that took place at Energus in Workington back in December, where employees Ashleigh Hancock and Dave McGlasson spent the day interviewing potential students.
Harvey was given an insight into the world of engineering by spending time with teams from each step of the process, including Business Development, Proposals & Procurement to Design Engineering and Project Management, and he was set a design project to complete during the week.
We were joined by Responsive Ltd halfway through the week to look at Quality and Testing, where the students were shown some of the inspection methods used in engineering, including laser scanning and dye penetrant testing.
On the last day of the placement, Harvey showed off what he had learned during the week, alongside presenting his completed project, which is a loading table that will be manufactured for use in our workshops.
Harvey said: “My Dream Placement with Bendalls has been a great experience and has given me a good insight into the world of engineering. I enjoyed the fact that I was trusted to work on a real project, and I would like to thank everyone at the company for being so welcoming and talking to me about the industry.”
We look forward to showing Harvey the completed project following manufacture, and to seeing him again at the Dream Placement Showcase on 16th March.
