Over the last 6 weeks, apprentices Matthew and Nathan have been taking part in the Sellafield Ltd Sprint programme, working to tackle real engineering and operational challenges on the Sellafield site.
Matthew’s group explored how to maintain the quality of diesel within long-term storage tanks, proposing the use of fuel polishers to remove moisture and sediment build-up.
Nathan’s group focused on how to safely remove debris from a high-radiation, minimal-access area, proposing the use of a BROKK remote operated vehicle (ROV) to remotely cut and remove both the grate and debris safely.
Alongside the technical side of the projects, both highlighted the value of developing their communication, teamwork and creative problem-solving skills throughout the sprint.
💬 Matthew (pic 1 left) said: “I enjoyed meeting new people during the sprint the most and loved every minute of it.”
💬 Nathan (pic 1 right) said: “I gained communication and teamworking skills that may not have been developed in my day-to-day job.”
A great experience for both apprentices and fantastic to see them representing Bendalls Engineering throughout the programme 👏
