Bendalls has been out in local schools this autumn, talking to students about careers in engineering and the opportunities right on their doorstep.

Earlier this month, Ashleigh Hancock visited the St John Henry Newman Catholic School careers fair, which was open to students from across the whole school. Last week, she headed to William Howard School to meet Year 11 students as they start thinking about their next steps after their GCSEs. Our stand even had some unexpected neighbours there, with owls, snakes and an armadillo joining the event!

At both fairs, students stopped by to find out what a career in engineering and manufacturing could look like, and how they could get started through an apprenticeship at the Bendalls Engineering Skills Academy in association with Lakes College. Questions ranged from “what does an engineer actually do?” to “can I earn while I learn?” – and the answer to that one is yes, you can!

Thank you to both schools for having us. There’s more to come, too: we’ll be at Caldew School on 17 November and Queen Elizabeth Grammar School Penrith on 1 December.
