We’re proud to share that seven of our team gave up their Sunday to take on The Great Cumbrian Run Half Marathon, raising an amazing £1,022 for Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice!
Kieran, Ashley, Jake, Josh, Kevan, Simon and Max joined 825 runners on the day and, after weeks of training, crossed the finish line with some brilliant individual achievements:
- Kieran led the way with an impressive 26th place finish, crossing the line in 1 hour 25 minutes.
- Ashley was close behind, securing 33rd place overall with a brilliant time of 1 hour 26 minutes.
- Jake set himself a new personal best of 1 hour 28 minutes and took 43rd place.
- Kevan powered home in 1 hour 35 minutes.
- Josh delivered a strong run, finishing in 1 hour 41 minutes.
- Max crossed the finish line in 1 hour 43 minutes, beating his dad’s time on the day of 1 hour 45 minutes!
- Simon, our oldest contender, who only took up his fitness regime in the last 12 months, completed the course in an impressive 2 hours 1 minute.
Going the extra mile for Jigsaw
Colleagues across the business got behind the team, and with a final push of last-minute donations, the sponsorship total passed the £1,000 milestone to reach £1,022.
We were delighted to welcome Emma Rogerson, Partnerships Lead at Jigsaw, to site so some of the team could present the total in person.
What the money means
It costs Jigsaw £29.10 to provide one hour of care, so the team’s efforts will fund over 35 hours of support for local children and their families.
Running the hospice costs £3,685.47 a day, and only around 17% of its funding comes from the NHS. The rest relies on the generosity of local people, businesses and fundraisers, which is why every donation makes such a difference.
How you can support Jigsaw
If you’d like to support Jigsaw too, there are plenty of ways to get involved:
- Hospice Lottery: a weekly draw every Friday, with a top prize of £1,000. It’s £2 a week, and you can pay by direct debit monthly or annually.
- Shaun the Sheep Cinema Night: Friday 23rd October at Zeffirellis Cinema, Ambleside, with a sheep-themed fancy dress competition before the film. A great evening out for the kids!
- Christmas cards and gifts: Jigsaw sell Christmas cards, calendars, diaries and more, with local scenes including Carlisle Castle, Carlisle Cathedral and the River Eden. Every purchase goes towards vital care.
